WESTPORT'S EOIN MADIGAN CHOSEN FOR IRISH U21 HURLING/SHINTY PANEL

Westport hurler Eoghan Madigan has been chosen for the Irish U21 Hurling/Shinty International Panel, which will play Scotland on Saturday 18th October at 12 noon in Durrow, Co Laois. Madigan was chosen for the Irish panel after a series of trials in Dublin over the past number of weeks, and is expected to line-out in the Irish attack against the Highlanders. The U21 game starts off a series of Internationals between the two celtic nations over the weekend, with the senior tie taking place at 3pm in the afternoon in Nowlan Park, Kilkenny, while a Camogie International also takes place over the weekend. The NUI Galway student was a vital member of Mayo's run in this years Christy Ring Cup campaign, while also playing on the Mayo U21 hurling team in this years Connacht Championship. Madigan becomes the first Westport hurler to represent his country, following previous representative appearances from Mayo hurlers Keith Higgins (Ballyhaunis), Stephen Coyne (Tooreen), Anthony Healy (Ballina), Derek McConn (Ballyhaunis), Tom Duffy (Ballina) and Adrian Freeman (Tooreen) over the past number of years.
